Livermore News:

Amgen Bike Race Road Closures
By now you no doubt have heard that the Amgen Tour bike race is again returning to Livermore on Tuesday May 15th, but here’s a reminder that it will be difficult to get across town at certain times of the day. The race actually comes through town twice that day. The bikers will start in San Jose and come through Livermore around noon on their way to Mt. Diablo, then return to Livermore for the finish around 4:00 pm. The race route from San Jose enters Livermore via highway 84, then down Holmes to First Street, left on Livermore Ave to the north side of the 580 freeway.

The return route comes into town around 4:00 pm on Tesla Road continuing north on Livermore Ave, then left on First street with the finish line at First & “M” streets (right in front of our office!) Road closure info is available on the city’s website. Click here. Some downtown streets will be closed the night before in preparation of the race day festivities so read the info and plan accordingly.

Summer Farmers Market Starts Another Season
The popular Thursday Farmers Market starts up on May 17th and runs through October 18th. Hours are the same, 4-8 pm at the same place, Carnegie Park between 3rd and 4th streets. I’ll see you there! The Sunday Farmers market continues to run year round at the historic train depot parking lot on “L” street from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Sauced BBQ and Spirits
Originally set to open in February or March in Sapphire’s old spot on First St. next to the Bankhead Theater, is now open for business. Co-owner Barrett Gomes says his new restaurant will feature “Southern BBQ all slow-smoked on our wood burning smoker.” Diners can order main dishes like pulled pork and St. Louis-style ribs and sides like collard greens and baked beans. The eatery’s full bar will feature seven whiskeys on tap (Bulleit Bourbon, Maker’s Mark, Woodford Reserve, to name a few) plus southern specialties like Juleps and Sweet Tea cocktails. Wente Chef in “Top 50”
An online website, Chef 2 Chef, has named The Restaurant at Wente’s  Chef Matt Greco in the  Chef-2-Chef.net’s list of “San Francisco’s 50 Finest Chefs.”  Considering that there are thousands of restaurants in the Bay Area, that’s  a pretty good accomplishment.

De Afghanan Kabob House
Expanding to Livermore, the Middle Eastern restaurant with locations in Fremont and Berkeley, opened April 19th on Railroad Avenue near Grocery Outlet. Savory specialties include Borani Kadoo (sautéed pumpkin seasoned with fresh garlic and peppers) and De Afghanan’s Famous Chaplee Kabob (grilled ground sirloin mixed with scallions and special seasonings).
